Two Inland boys water polo players earn top honors – Press Enterprise

The CIF Southern Section earlier this month released the awards for the 2025 boys water polo season.

Bonita junior Jeffry Heaton and Fontana senior Matthew Zubiate helped their respective teams capture section championships and were among the athletes who were selected divisional players of the year.

Heaton was chosen the Division 3 Player of the Year after helping the Bearcats win the eighth section title in program history. Heaton, a 2-meter center, scored a team-high four goals during Bonita’s 10-9 victory over Temecula Valley in the Division 3 championship match.

Zubiate was selected the Division 5 Player of the Year after helping the Steelers claim the first section championship in program history. Zubiate, also a center, tallied five goals, six assists and five steals in Fontana’s 15-11 victory over Baldwin Park in the Division 5 championship match.

Bonita’s Dillon Unsoeld and Fontana’s Spencer Fernandes also were recognized and honored by the Southern Section for guiding their teams to section championship.

An additional 20 Inland players were chosen to the first team in their respective playoff divisions.
