Inmate Becomes Fourth Person to Escape Philadelphia Jail This Year

The fourth person to break out of a city jail this year in Philadelphia escaped from the city’s industrial Correctional Center, Ellie Rushing and Chris Palmer report for the Philadelphia Inquirer. Gino Hagenkotter, an inmate at the nearby Riverside Correctional Facility in the Northeast, was serving a jail sentence for drug and theft charges when he climbed over the jail’s fence, walked through the yard of the nearby sanitation facility, ditched his jumpsuit, and headed down the street. Court records show Hagenkotter has a lengthy criminal, but overall nonviolent, history of mostly drug and theft offenses in both Philadelphia and Bucks County. The escape is the latest stain on the city agency this year, which included three other escapes from other facilities.
