Boy, 17, arrested in Mead Valley dirt bike crash that killed girl, 3, on bicycle – Press Enterprise

A 17-year-old boy was arrested this week on suspicion of crashing into and killing a three-year-old girl in Mead Valley while riding a dirt bike in late August, authorities said.

The teenager, from Perris, was booked into Riverside Juvenile Hall Friday, Sept. 8, on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and hit-and-run causing fatal injuries, California Highway Patrol Officer Javier Navarro said.

The teenager was riding the dirt bike eastbound on Steele Peak Drive at Palm Street when he hit the girl and her mother as they were along the right side of the roadway just after 7:45 p.m., Aug. 31, Navarro said. The girl was riding her bicycle, while her mom walked.

The teenager fled along Steele Peak Drive without stopping to help the mother and daughter, Navarro said.

Both victims were taken to a hospital, where the girl died, Navarro said. Her mother suffered moderate injuries, he said.

Officers received information leading to the identity of the teenager, but the specifics were not publicly disclosed.

Investigators are seeking additional witnesses and ask anyone with information to call the CHP Riverside Investigation Unit at 951-637-8000.
