Jordan Chiles gets another perfect 10 as UCLA gymnastics beats Washington – Orange County Register

LOS ANGELES — The fifth-ranked UCLA gymnastics team made a statement on Friday night, eclipsing the 198-point barrier in January for the first time since 2003 with a 198.150-195.825 victory over Washington at Pauley Pavilion.

Jordan Chiles scored her third perfect 10 in less than two weeks, and the Bruins set season-highs on vault (49.425), uneven bars (49.550) and floor exercise (49.700).

For the second consecutive week and third time this season, Chiles won the all-around and swept all four events. She scored 39.875 to match the national season-high that she set last week and scored her second consecutive perfect 10 on floor. She also earned a season-high 9.975 on the uneven bars and posted 9.950 on vault and the balance beam.

Senior Ciena Alipio and junior Sydney Barros provided major firepower on three events. Alipio scored career-highs on uneven bars (9.950) and floor exercise (9.900) and tied with Chiles for first place on the balance beam with a 9.950. Barros earned a career-high 9.925 on the uneven bars, tied her career-best on floor exercise with a 9.900 and hit a 9.850 on her first competitive balance beam routine.

Several Bruin freshmen also had standout performances. Tiana Sumanasekera scored a career-high 39.425 in the all-around, with season-bests on vault (9.875) and floor exercise (9.925). Ashlee Sullivan earned a career-best 9.950 on floor exercise to finish second, and Jordis Eichman scored a career-high 9.875 on balance beam to place third.

UCLA (7-2 overall, 3-0 Big Ten) started the meet with a season-high 49.425 on vault, highlighted by Chiles’ 9.950 and Madisyn Anyimi’s career-high 9.900 on a stuck Yurchenko full vault. Washington (2-5, 1-2) scored a season-high of its own on the uneven bars (49.325) to stand just one-tenth behind the Bruins.

A leadoff 9.950 by Alipio jump-started the Bruins’ season-best uneven bars rotation. Barros followed Alipio’s score with a career-high 9.925, and Chiles closed with a near-perfect 9.975 to bring UCLA’s score to 49.550.

Leading by 0.775 going into the third rotation, the Bruins continued to build on their lead, scoring 49.475. Katelyn Rosen and Barros started the rotation with 9.850s, followed by a 9.875 by Eichman. Chiles and Alipio ended with back-to-back 9.950s.

With a 198 in sight, the Bruins delivered on the floor, scoring a national-best 49.700. Rosen led off with a season-high 9.925. Alipio followed with a career-best 9.900, and Barros tied her career-best with another 9.900. Sumanasekera had her best floor routine of the season, scoring 9.925. Sullivan followed with her best floor score (9.950), setting the scene for Chiles, who dazzled the crowd with another perfect 10, her eighth career 10 on the floor and her 14th 10 overall.
