Bob Stoops, Montee Ball welcomed into Rose Bowl Hall of Fame – Press Enterprise

Former Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops and former Wisconsin running back Montee Ball were inducted into the Rose Bowl Hall of Fame on Tuesday in a ceremony at The Langham Huntington hotel in Pasadena.

Stoops coached the Sooners to a 34-14 victory over Washington State in the 2003 Rose Bowl.

Under the rules then in effect, Oklahoma was selected as the replacement for Big Ten champion Ohio State, which was second in the Bowl Championship Series standings, and bound for the Fiesta Bowl to play Miami for the national championship.

Stoops guided the Sooners to a 190-48 record from 1999 to 2016, including winning the 2000 national championship. He is the only coach in college football history to win a national championship and all four BCS bowl games.

Stoops was among 11 people to have played in and served as the coach of a team playing in the Rose Bowl. He was a starting defensive back for Iowa in its 28-0 loss to Washington in the 1982 Rose Bowl.

Stoops retired as Oklahoma’s coach in 2017 at the age of 56 as its winningest coach. He was succeeded by Lincoln Riley, then the Sooners’ offensive coordinator.

Stoops was Oklahoma’s interim coach for its 47-32 victory over Oregon in the 2021 Alamo Bowl following Riley’s departure for USC.

Stoops was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2021.

Ball is the only player to rush for 100 yards in three Rose Bowl Games, rushing for 132 yards and a touchdown in the Badgers’ 21-19 loss to TCU in the 2011 Rose Bowl, 164 yards in their 45-38 loss to Oregon in the 2012 Rose Bowl and 100 yards against Stanford in a 20-14 loss.
