Health Scare: Nancy Pelosi, 84, Rushed to Hospital After Injury Abroad.
Nancy Pelosi has been taken to the hospital following an unexplained injury while she was in Europe. The 84-year-old former House Speaker sustained the injury while working in Luxembourg, according to her office’s statement on Friday.
“While traveling with a bipartisan Congressional delegation in Luxembourg to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge, Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi experienced an injury during an official event and was admitted to the hospital for assessment,” spokesperson Ian Krager shared. “Speaker Emerita Pelosi is currently receiving excellent care from medical professionals.”
Despite her injury, Pelosi is reportedly continuing her work. “She remains engaged and is disappointed that she cannot participate in the remaining CODEL events to honor the bravery of our servicemembers during one of the most significant acts of American heroism in our history,” Krager noted. “She looks forward to returning to the U.S. soon.” The lawmakers had traveled to Belgium and Luxembourg to commemorate the anniversary of the World War II battle, as announced by Pelosi’s office prior to the trip. They were scheduled to attend events honoring veterans on Friday and Saturday.
“Speaker Emerita Pelosi was both personally and officially honored to travel with this distinguished delegation, many of whom have family ties to World War II veterans — including her uncle, Johnny,” the statement added. Pelosi served as the Democratic leader in the House for 15 years before stepping down two years ago. Pelosi’s incident follows closely on the heels of Mitch McConnell’s fall during a GOP lunch, where medics quickly arrived with a wheelchair after the Kentucky senator collapsed on Tuesday.
