A Favor To Ask: Help Support and Celebrate Community Mediation

On Sept. 19, The Resolution Center celebrates its 30th anniversary. Long formerly known as the North Shore Community Mediation Center, it is an organization that provides conflict resolution and training services to a broad swath of communities north of Boston.

I am on The Resolution Center’s board of directors, and I am writing this to ask a favor: Help celebrate our anniversary and support our work by either attending or sponsoring our 30th anniversary gala.

The gala will feature New York Times bestselling author Andre Dubus III as the featured speaker. Dubus is author of eight books, including Oprah Book Club pick House of Sand and Fog, The Garden of Last Days, and his memoir, Townie. His latest novel, released earlier this year, is Such Kindness.

You can support the gala in two ways:

• Come to our gala. If you live in Massachusetts or New England, join us. Tickets are just $80 for the dinner, which will be held at the beautiful waterfront Danversport Yacht Club in Danvers, Mass. You can buy tickets here.
• Sponsor our gala. Even if you cannot attend, and regardless of where you live, become a sponsor of the event. Sponsorship levels range from $250 to $5,000. About The Resolution Center

The Resolution Center is a nonprofit that is funded through membership and service fees, donations, and grants.

It provides mediation services in courts, for family, for youth and in schools, and in communities.

It also offers a variety of training and support to help build conflict resolution, communication and listening skills. Whether someone wants to train to become a mediator or simply learn to use conflict management skills in their daily life, the center has programs to fit.

I first learned about The Resolution Center many years ago when I was a trustee and president of the Massachusetts Bar Foundation, which provides funding for the center. I was so impressed with it that, as soon as I went off the MBF board, I went on the center’s board.
