Ramona outlook: The Rams will be making their first appearance in a CIF State football championship game. Ramona won the CIF Southern Section’s Division 11 championship and reached the state finals with a 21-16 victory over Torrance in last week’s regional championship game. Senior quarterback Jeremiah Acosta has passed for 2,467 yards and 26 touchdowns, while senior receiver Jake Valenzuela has caught 55 passes for 1,112 yards and 13 touchdowns. Junior Sincere Tolbert leads the ground attack for the Rams with 1,952 yards and 24 touchdowns. The defense is led by senior linebacker Peter Mesa (177 tackles) and sophomore linebacker Troy Long (166 tackles). Senior defensive back Royce Mendoza leads the team with nine interceptions, seven of which have come during the postseason.

Pleasant Valley outlook: The Vikings are looking to capture the program’s third state championship in as many tries. Pleasant Valley won the Division 4-A title in 2016 and the Division 4-AA title in 2018. The Vikings are the CIF Northern Section’s Division 2 champion and reached the state finals with a 31-12 victory over Orinda Miramonte in last week’s regional championship game. Junior Lucas Benson leads Pleasant Valley’s ground attack with 870 yards and 20 touchdowns, while junior quarterback Joseph Garcia has passed for 1,240 yards and 11 touchdowns. Junior defensive end Gavin Garretson is an outstanding pass rusher who has racked up 16 1/2 sacks this season.
