Murrieta man tried to pull a fast one in million-dollar car-rental ruse – Press Enterprise

A Murrieta man is facing 18 felony charges after authorities say he stole six luxury cars, including two Lamborghinis, worth more than a combined $1 million from a Lake Mathews couple and attempted to sell them.

Kendall Jamison Clark, 25, was arrested on Oct. 18 in San Diego and pleaded not guilty on Oct. 20 to six counts of grand theft, six counts of embezzlement and six counts of receiving a stolen vehicle, the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office said Friday, Oct. 27.

Clark is next due in court on Oct. 30 at Southwest Justice Center in French Valley.

Bail was set at $1 million after the DA’s Office argued in court that Clark might use the proceeds from the alleged thefts to pay to get out of jail. Clark is represented by the Public Defender’s Office. Clark was still in custody Friday, jail records show.

In September, the couple who own the cars reported to the Riverside Auto-Theft Interdiction Detail that Clark had filled out rental paperwork for the cars, paid for one-week rentals and picked them up from the owners. Those cars were a 2022 Chevrolet Corvette, 2015 Lamborghini Huracán, a 2021 Jeep Wrangler, a 2021 Porsche Cayenne, a 2017 BMW i8 and a 2020 Lamborghini Urus. The Lamborghinis cost more than $200,000 new.

But Clark did not return the cars, the DA’s Office said, and when the owners tried to report them as stolen, they were told the cars were no longer registered in their names. The cars were later located at dealerships around the country with titles that had been forged by Clark, the DA’s news release said.

The cars were returned to their owners.

The DA’s Office on Friday could not clarify whether Clark rented the cars all at once or over a period of time, and whether he sold them to the dealerships or consigned them.

Clark is being investigated in connection with other crimes, according to the DA’s Office, which asked that anyone with information on him contact Detective Matt Guzzino of the RAID task force at 951-290-1923.
